Lack of posts

I have really been falling down on the job here, post wise. I have been spending a lot of time with my grandson and not a lot of time posting.

It has been wonderful to have a child in the house again. I had forgotten how much joy and sunshine comes into your life with an imaginative little person. He sees mundane things as new discoveries and loves just spending time with us. He can launch into long winded soliloquies about the differences in his hot wheels cars. He can talk endlessly about watching the clothes in the washer and the dryer (mine have glass fronts).

He loves to help. With everything. No matter how dull the task, he finds something facinating about each and every one. Even if he is busy playing with his toys and I start a task, he is right there wanting to help.  Even a trip to the grocery store is an adventure for him, things to see on the drive there and back, not to mention all the things in the store itself.

One of my favorite things is when he is ready to settle down for the night. He will grab his teddy bear and say “Can I sit on your lap, grandma?” Then he will crawl up and snuggle against me, utterly content, and fall asleep.

This morning I looked out the window and saw a flock of wild turkeys in the hayfield. When I pointed them out to Hunter, he watched them for quite a while. He had a perfect vantage point from the kitchen window and kept me updated as to what the turkeys were doing. That was more interesting to him than watching the TV or even playing with his toys.

Waiting for Spring

I have been planning the garden layout and really looking forward to spring. I am itching to get outside and do some things to the yard. I still have many indoor projects I want to work on when it gets warmer, but the outdoor projects are dominating my thinking.

I have ordered some plants to help dress up the yard. Everything I have planned is for outside the fenced area of the house. The chain link could really use some camouflage and what better way than with some flowering plants? I have areas planned out for some peony bushes, honeysuckle and lilac bushes. I have also ordered some apple and pear trees. Those are going to go down by the garden area.

Inside I have some painting I still want to do along with some major rearranging and reorganzing. I also need to do another cleaning of the wood floors. Add to that washing of windows, inside and out. I think that I will have enough to keep me busy for a while.

I know that Hunter will be happy to spend more time outside and I am looking forward to watching him run and play in the sunshine. He loves to help with anything that I am doing, I am sure he will get a kick out of digging in the ground and planting stuff.

Playin’ in the snow

We have had such a good time outside walking through the falling snow and showing Hunter how to make snowballs. He really got a kick out of it. Playing in the snow is a new experience for him and he really loved it!

He liked walking through the freshly fallen snow and being able to see his footprints. He kept saying “Oh look grandma, my feets are still in the snow.” For a little guy he kept up pretty well with what was for him, trudging through deep snow. Mostly it was snow sitting on top of the high grass in the pasture.

The look of wonder on his face at the falling snow was priceless. It was like pure magic, having the snow fall on his face. He thought it was great when I showed him how to make a snowball and then to throw it. Too bad the snow wasn’t wet enough to build a snow man. There really wasn’t a whole lot of snow, just barely an inch, but if it were a little more damp we could a have made a small snowman.

Even though he was wet and cold he didn’t want to go back into the house. Like most kids when they are having fun being cold didn’t seem to matter. Over many objections on his part we finally went back into the house. Playing in the snow was about all he talked about for the rest of the day, I think he had a good time.

Happy Ground Hog Day

The ground hog will definitely not see his shadow here at the gulch. We woke up to heavy grey clouds and snow. But what does that mean for other places where he did see his shadow? That those areas will see six more weeks of winter but it will be spring in the places where he didn’t?

This is the heaviest snowfall that we have had so far this winter. But it probably won’t be around for long. Last winter we had a 4 inch snowfall, but it was mostly melted by afternoon of the same day. We will enjoy it as long as it lasts.

I think I will take Hunter outside and let him play in the snow. I know he will get a kick out of it, being a Florida boy. Besides most kids love the snow and he is no exception. So I am off to finish my coffee, get the coats, boots, gloves and hats on and go out to play.

Did the ground hog see his shadow in your part of the world?
